Curriculum Intent

This practical and engaging course has been developed to ensure an inclusive specification that will allow all learners to achieve their potential.
The content has been designed to allow learners to study Physical Education (PE) in an academic setting, allowing them to critically analyse and evaluate physical performance and apply their experience of practical activities in developing their knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Programmes of Study

Component 01: Physical factors affecting performance
    1.1 Applied anatomy and physiology
    1.2 Physical training.

Component 02: Socio-cultural issues and sports psychology
    2.1 Socio-cultural influences
    2.2 Sports psychology
    2.3 Health, fitness and well-being.

Component 03: Performance in physical education (NEA)
    3.1 Performance of three activities taken from the two approved lists*.
    • one from the ‘individual’ list
    • one from the ‘team’ list
    • one other from either list.
    ALL PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES MUST BE PERFORMED IN COMPETITION TO BE AWARDED A MARK.

Marking and Assessment

All assessments will be marked in accordance with the criteria set by the Governing body OCR.
 

Examinations

     (01) 60 marks 1 hour written paper 30% of total GCSE

    (02) 60 marks 1 hour written paper 30% of total GCSE

Practical activity assessment 
(ALL PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES MUST BE PERFORMED IN COMPETITION TO BE AWARDED A MARK).
Analysing and Evaluating Performance (AEP) 10% and Performance in physical education 30% 
    (03) 80 marks non-exam assessment (NEA) 40% of total GCSE

OCR GCSE PE Revision Guide 
Resources such as PowerPoint etc for each class are either on ‘office 365 teams’ or ‘the school network ‘classwork, student shared area’.

Careers and Progression

This course gives the opportunity to study a range of topics such as healthy and active lifestyles, analysis and evaluation of physical activity. This is a basis for continuing study in Sport and Physical Education, Biology or continuing with a specific sport dependant on ability. 
Students can also progress to university to study a variety of courses, including Sports Science, Sports Studies, Leisure Management, Teaching, Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy and others.
