Partnership with Parents

Education is a three way partnership between students, teachers and parents. We value highly our relationship with parents because we know that together we can help our youngsters to achieve their potential.

Music at Walton-le-DaleWalton-le-Dale places a strong emphasis on celebrating success within the school. Newsletters are produced termly to keep everyone informed of the achievements of our students and special events.

We know that parents want to help their child succeed at school. For this reason our website contains detailed information, including advice on how parents can support their child.

We believe communication between home and school is vital in supporting students. There are a number of ways to contact the school, including telephone, email and the Student Planner. The first point of contact should be the Form Tutor or Pastoral Manager. Parents can also access many materials, including homework projects, through the school's Moodle.

Student Progress

All students are set academic targets at the start of each year. Formal assessments take place on a termly basis and parents are regularly informed of their child's progress through written reports.

Form tutors, teachers and mentors meet with each student to review progress and parents are invited to Review Days and Evenings to discuss progress.

Attendance

There is a strong and obvious link between school attendance and student achievement. If students are not in school, they cannot do the work and it is very difficult to make up lost ground. Parents should, therefore, make every effort to ensure that their child attends school.

If you know your child is going to be late or absent, a telephone call is required to the school office before 10am on the morning of the absence. This will ensure that you will not be contacted unnecessarily by text, phone or letter. Upon your child's return to school, a note is still required to comply with the Local Authority and school procedures. Parents should make every effort to organise holidays during holiday time.

In exceptional circumstances parents should write to the Headteacher requesting permission for their child to go on holiday during term time. Holidays can be authorised only when a student already has a high attendance.
